Investigative Division Welcome to the investigative branch of the Tazewell County State’s Attorney’s Office World Wide Web site. Having police officers working out of the Tazewell County State’s Attorney’s Office started in the 1970’s. Departments would send newly assigned detectives to work for the state’s attorney’s office for about six months. This gave the new detectives the insight in what is needed to prosecute crimes in Illinois. Because of budget restraints this practice gave way to the need of the detectives on the street. The office was left with one part time officer. In the early 1990’s laws were passed that allowed state’s attorneys in Illinois to have their own investigation units and hire sworn officers as investigators.
